MADAME C.J.

SOUTHERN SOUNDS

Article and interview by R.A. Morrison

One of the things that impressed me about Madam CJ’s music is that she really has put a unique spin on her expression of house music. One of my favourite tracks by her is “U don’t know”. Her songs speak about life, love and relationships with a 'bluesy' funky beat that translates into sort of house with bit of a southern twang. That southern influence is something that she doesn’t shy away from. The beginning of her track “Heal Me” starts with her voice complete with southern accent proudly declaring; “I’m from Memphis Tennessee.”

This year she has released her first EP “Juke Menagerie” an album she calls her “ode to dance.” She’s working with a variety of creative people such as Kai Alce, Stereotyp, Pixel and her Rahbi who she worked closely with in the past.

I met Madam CJ in 2006 at the WMC with some friends at a really slammin rooftop party. Later on I found out that she was a singer and in the process of working on an EP.  After the conference I looked her up online to get some additional info. We’ve run into each other at every WMC since then.
