Ruben Toro created many of his opportunities. As a long time friend of legendary DJ Timmy Regisford he was able to get a job at Club Shelter soon after it opened in the early 90’s. Timmy became a mentor and helped Ruben to develop his mixing ability. Within a few years Ruben was a DJ at the Shelter. After the Shelter closed its doors for in the mid 90’s Timmy and Ruben were determined to keep the party going.
In 1996, Ruben and Timmy went started a weekly party called; "The Temple," at the TUNNEL in NYC. When "Club Shelter" returned in 1997 Ruben was back as the opening DJ. At the time he was also made guest appearances for a mix show entitled "KISS Club Classics" on 98.7 KISS FM. He admits that he approached KISS about a 9-5 type job. KISS however decided to offer him four hours of radio air time three days a week. "KISS Club Classics" eventually became New York's #1 Saturday night mix show.
