The first time I met Anane was at the original club Shelter on Hubert Street in New York City. I could never have imagined back then that I would one day be interviewing her about her music. She has told the story of how she came to be singing and working alongside her husband Louie Vega many times. It is a story that still amazes me when I think about it.
There I was dancing to “Nos Vida” at club Shelter and had no idea it was her track. When I got the chance to tell her how much I liked the track I asked her “how come you never told me you sing?” She told me that Louie said the same thing when she told him.

Since then Anane has become an innovative vocalist and performer. As a member of the Louie Vega project Elements of Life she has worked with many of the artists who are making an impact in the dance music community. She has put her own distinct stamp on this music by infusing into it the Latin, African and Portuguese influences that are a part of her heritage from Cape Verde.
Anane brings to the musical table diverse experiences and talents that continue to influence her musical direction. The songs she sings remind you of things and stir feelings inside you even if
