DREAMING IN COLOUR

Reviewed by Gareth Morgan

Spencer Gray isn't a person, but a collective. Comprising New York producer and DJ Marc-Alan Gray, along with Loveslap Recordings founder Charle's Spencer, the duo announce their names to dance music with their debut album.

I am at a loss how to describe this album, because it is in my mind, one of the best pieces of work I've heard in the last ten years! It's an absolutely sublime, original, innovative and excellently written and produced long player. It really, really is this good people, I haven't stopped playing it since being sent this at the start of February! This album has EVERYTHING that fans of good, non commercial, non pop music

will embrace. Every single track on this album has its own story and thought process behind it, and all of the track are so damn different, it just makes this album lean towards being a masterpiece in my honest opinion.

There are influences of everything in this album; soul, jazz, broken, soulful and hip hop amongst several others. Listen to the sound bites at the end of this review on the next page. There are twelve tracks on this promo, two of which are remixes of tracks on the album.

Spencer Gray could be the new uber cool, but they have every right to be. I think the last time I was in this much awe over new music, was when I first heard Nuyorican Soul material in the nineties.
